In-House Oral Surgery by
Toronto's Experienced Team

Many dental practices refer surgical cases to outside specialists. At Smiles and More, Dr. Kumaran Mayelam, BDS — with specialized training in Oral Pathology and over 25 years of surgical experience — performs a comprehensive range of oral surgical procedures in-house. This means less waiting, lower overall cost, and continuity of care from the dentist who already knows your dental history.

Our clinic is equipped with digital cone-beam imaging for precise 3D surgical planning, and we offer multiple anaesthesia options including local anaesthetic and sedation to ensure your surgical experience is as comfortable as possible. Post-operative monitoring and follow-up care are included with all surgical procedures.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Surgery

Oral surgery covers any procedure involving incisions into gum or bone tissue. At Smiles and More this includes surgical extractions, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting, implant placement, frenectomy, tori removal, and soft tissue biopsies — all performed in-office.
Recovery varies by procedure. Simple surgical extractions: 3–5 days. Wisdom tooth surgery: 5–7 days. Bone grafting or implant placement: 1–2 weeks before return to normal activity, with full healing taking several months.
Most procedures are performed under local anaesthesia — you're fully awake but feel no pain, only pressure. Sedation options (nitrous oxide, oral sedation) are available for anxious patients who want to feel relaxed without being unconscious.
Many surgical procedures are covered under the major restorative or oral surgery benefit of standard dental plans. We provide a detailed pre-treatment estimate and direct-bill your insurer.
For local anaesthesia only: eat normally and take regular medications unless instructed otherwise. For sedation: fast for 6 hours beforehand and arrange a driver. Wear comfortable clothing and avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior.
