Gentle Extractions by
Experienced Toronto Dentists

At Smiles and More, tooth extractions are performed with precision and care by Dr. Kumaran Mayelam, BDS — an experienced dentist with deep expertise in oral surgery and complex extractions. Whether you need a single tooth removed due to decay, a cracked tooth that cannot be saved, or all four wisdom teeth extracted, our team ensures a comfortable procedure and a smooth recovery.

We use effective local anaesthesia and, where appropriate, offer sedation options to keep anxious patients comfortable throughout the procedure. Post-extraction care instructions and follow-up appointments are provided as standard, and we can coordinate bone grafting or implant placement after healing.

What We Offer

Our Extraction Services

Simple Tooth Extractions

Routine removal of erupted teeth under local anaesthesia — quick, comfortable, and typically complete in under 30 minutes.

Surgical Extractions

For teeth broken at the gumline or that cannot be removed in one piece, a minor surgical approach is used with sutures for clean healing.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Removal of all four wisdom teeth in one appointment, including partially and fully impacted teeth requiring surgical access.

Impacted Tooth Extraction

Safe removal of teeth that have not fully erupted and are trapped against adjacent teeth or bone.

Emergency Extractions

Same-day extraction appointments for severe toothaches, abscessed teeth, or dental trauma where saving the tooth is not possible.

Pre-Orthodontic Extractions

Planned extraction of selected premolars to create the space required for successful orthodontic alignment.

Post-Extraction Bone Grafting

Socket preservation grafting placed immediately after extraction to maintain bone volume for a future dental implant.

Implant Coordination

We coordinate the entire journey from extraction through healing to implant placement so patients never need to be referred elsewhere.

The Process

Your Extraction Journey, Step by Step

X-Rays & Assessment

Digital X-rays and a clinical exam confirm whether extraction is necessary and reveal the tooth's root anatomy for safe removal.

Anaesthesia & Preparation

Local anaesthetic numbs the area completely. Sedation is available for anxious or complex cases.

Extraction

The tooth is gently loosened and removed using precise instruments. Surgical extractions may involve a small incision and sutures.

Aftercare & Recovery

Written aftercare instructions and a follow-up appointment are provided. Most patients recover fully within 3–7 days.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Extractions

With effective local anaesthesia, you should feel pressure but no sharp pain during the procedure. Post-extraction soreness is normal and well-managed with over-the-counter pain relievers for 2–3 days.
Simple extractions heal in 3–5 days. Wisdom tooth removal typically requires 5–7 days. Swelling peaks at 24–48 hours and gradually subsides.
After a simple extraction under local anaesthesia only, yes — you can drive yourself. If you receive sedation, you must arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.
Stick to soft foods for the first 24–48 hours. Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods for 3–5 days. Do not use a straw for at least 72 hours — the sucking motion can dislodge the blood clot and cause dry socket.
Dry socket occurs when the protective blood clot is dislodged before the socket heals, exposing the underlying bone. It causes throbbing pain starting 2–4 days after extraction. Call us immediately — we can place a medicated dressing to relieve the pain quickly.
